10 Unforgettable Beaches on Australia’s East Coast You Need to Visit!

10 Unforgettable Beaches on Australia’s East Coast You Need to Visit!

Australia's East Coast is a treasure trove of stunning beaches, each offering its own unique charm. Whether you're after peaceful escapes or relaxing getaways, these beaches are worth adding to your bucket list. Starting from north to south, here’s a guide to my top picks:

Palm Cove

  1. Palm Cove, QLD

Palm Cove is a slice of paradise nestled between Cairns and Port Douglas. It’s especially perfect during the dry season, making it an ideal winter getaway. With its serene beach lined with palm trees swaying in the breeze, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and escape the chill.

Whitehaven Beach

  1. Whitehaven Beach, QLD

Whitehaven Beach is famous for its stunning beauty and is best visited during the dry season when stingers are less of a concern. The bright white sand and turquoise, crystal-clear water create a breathtaking scene. A boat trip to Whitehaven From Airlie Beach is a must, where you can enjoy the fantastic view from the hill. Little blue soldier crabs can be seen marching across the sand when you walk down. Most boat tours also include snorkeling at nearby reefs, where you can marvel at the colorful corals and fish.

Lake McKenzie

      3. Lake McKenzie, K'gari (Fraser Island), QLD

Lake McKenzie on K’gari is a sight to behold. The bright white soft sand contrasts beautifully with the incredibly blue lake, creating a picture-perfect setting. It’s better to spend at least 3 days here as there are many cool places to explore. However, it’s also great for a 1-day trip if you hire a 4WD or go with a local organizer from Rainbow Beach.

  1. Coolum Beach, QLD

Coolum Beach offers more than just sun and sand—it’s a visual feast. The walk board provides a fantastic view of the ocean, making it a favorite for a relaxing walk. If you’re looking to soak in some amazing ocean views while enjoying the cool sea breeze, this is your spot.

The ultimate beach towel you need for this summer: Sand-free and eco-friendly

          5. Noosa, QLD

Noosa is a perfect blend of natural beauty and upscale charm. The walking tracks to Hell’s Gate offer stunning views, especially during winter when you can spot whales. The town itself has a bit of a posh vibe, with its fancy shops and restaurants, making it a great spot for a more refined beach day.

North Stradbroke Island

  1. Main Beach, North Stradbroke Island, QLD

Main Beach on North Stradbroke Island is perfect for a day visit from Brisbane. You can drive your 4WD on the main beach, and there are two types of ferries daily from Cleveland—one for passengers and one for vehicles. If you plan to bring your car, book the ferry in advance. The vast stretches of sand and the relaxed atmosphere make it ideal for a laid-back beach day.

  1. Coochiemudlo Island, QLD

If you’re seeking a hidden gem close to Brisbane, Coochiemudlo Island is your answer. This secret spot feels like a private, secluded beach, perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle without traveling far. It’s a day visit from Brisbane; take the ferry from Redland Bay for a quick getaway. Just throw your towel on the sand, relax, and enjoy the peaceful vibes of this island retreat.

Coolangatta Beach

  1. Coolangatta Beach, QLD

Coolangatta Beach is a less crowded alternative to the popular Surfers Paradise. The sunsets here are breathtaking, and the view from Coolangatta towards the Gold Coast is nothing short of spectacular. It’s the perfect place to relax and take in the natural beauty.

Byron Bay

  1. Byron Bay, NSW

Byron Bay is not just about the beach—it’s a whole experience. Known for its hippy atmosphere, this town is dotted with cool shops, eclectic restaurants, and a beach with soft, gentle waves. If you’re lucky, you might even snag a campsite close to the beach for the full Byron Bay experience.

  1. Manly Beach, Sydney, NSW

While Bondi Beach often steals the spotlight, I prefer Manly Beach for its laid-back vibe. The ferry ride from Circular Quay offers a scenic introduction to your beach day. Once you arrive, stroll down the main street filled with shops, cafes, and restaurants before hitting the sandy shores. Just take a picnic blanket with you, find a cozy spot, and soak in the relaxed atmosphere that makes Manly Beach a true gem. Which beach is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
